The media just love Jack
Today we witnessed the deadliest shooting at a US school. I am now going to be horribly blunt.
The first thing that sprung to my mind was “Bloody hell, Jack is going to have a field day with this”. I was not to be dissapointed! For those not familiar with Jack Thompson, he is a lawer in the US set against blaming computer games for anything and everything - regardless.
So, not surprisingly, we see him on Fox news pulling more media stunts to preach his thoughts. It sickens me people like this can be put in such a position of power within the media. Within a few hours after a major incident he can come on millions of TVs and claim anything; even before the shooters are identified.
P.S. Some may get a little peeved I am posting anything about him (the more attention he gets… etc etc), but some of the people I know read here may not have heard of the guy, hence the post.

That was exactly my first thought on hearing this news too. I can only hope
that most people have the common sense to ignore lunatics like him.

Depends how sensationalist you want your media. Fox doesn’t exactly have a reputation for objective, balanced news coverage. Fortunately, there are other more balanced thoughts on what actually causes of this sort of event (example).
I’d never heard of this guy before your post. The bigger knee-jerk reaction I saw was that of guns, how guns are bad, and how guns should be banned, etc, which is probably more justified than bashing games. Most outlets are still analysing the event itself, rather than the inevitable finger pointing, but I’m sure games will catch the blame a few times over the coming weeks.

The most disappointing reaction I saw wasn’t Jack Thomson (I still think he’s a complete twunt though) but the surprising amount of people who started using this shooting as an argument for LOOSER gun controls. Apparently some people think that if the students had been carrying guns then they could have shot the Shooter and disaster would have been averted. As opposed to the more likely scenario of mass panic, confusion, people shooting each other indiscriminately and the police showing up and having no idea of the situation.
Sometimes I despair…
